TIME MAZE CLOCK BY DANIEL LIBESKIND FOR ALESSI

Image
Architect  Daniel Libeskind  went small scale for a new design recently unvelied during Milan Design Week. Designed for  Alessi , the  Time Maze  clock proves that time is neither linear or circular, but rather a maze of “abstract connections and playful interactions.” Built from stainless steel, the clock represents Libeskind’s ongoing interest in time as seen referenced in some of his most famous works, like the Jewish Museum Berlin. The clock clearly portrays Libeskind’s architectural style, with disjointed lines, openings, and broken surfaces.

Dezignbiz

Launching 2016 Dezignbiz is a new conference which will be held over 3 days in Collaboration with the Inspire Trade Expo. It was conceptualised by Dave Nemeth a prominent trend forecaster and business consultant in conjunction with the Inspire Trade expo team. Through much research we realised that we have a design centric consumer across all LSM’s yet very few companies are addressing this. This so called “design experience” is important throughout all aspects of a company, from processors to the way they market and what their office environments look like as well as how they launch a product or service into the market. It is vital that design is at the core of every business. This conference which will be held over 3 days will have some of the industries top professionals, discussing points that will assist in getting your business ahead of the curve. Unlike many similar conferences the tickets for Dezignbiz will go on sale at R250 per day but be limited to only 100 p...

Make or break by Dave Nemeth for Fast Company

TECHNOLOGY IS ADVANCING at a rate of knots, and keeping up with all these advances is an almost impossible task for even the best analysts and forecasters. In a similar way, it is hard to predict what the physical design of items will look like. What is perhaps easier to predict and forecast, however, is how the physical process of design will change and evolve, as well as who will be doing the real innovative design. Will it be trained professionals, or weekend hobbyists who are part of a maker group? I’m currently of the belief that due to the speed of technological advances, the education system within many fields has been caught on the back foot. Design, in particular, is one of those. In a 2014 presentation at London’s Design Museum, Jonathan Ive—head designer at Apple—had this to say about design institutions and the hiring process: “So many of the designers that we interview don’t know how to make stuff, because workshops in design schools are expensive and computers are cheaper...
