Thabang Skwambane Managing Director FCB 


Thabang is the recently-appointed Managing Director of FCB Joburg, the flag- ship agency within the FCB South Africa group. A well-known social entrepreneur and businessman, he has a flair for successfully combining capitalist and philanthropic principles.

He has no formal marketing or advertising experience, but left a successful career in merchant and investment banking at Standard Bank to co-found Kaelo, a wellness company focusing on HIV and Aids. Thabang is also a shareholder of Threefold Creative, a multimedia and technology business that brings together a multi-disciplinary team of highly-talented creatives to deliver audio, visual and sensory experiences. In addition, he is the chairman and founder of The Lonely Road Foundation which enables rural communities to take care of orphans and vulnerable children.

Born and raised in exile before returning to finish his schooling and attend university in Cape Town in 1989, Thabang recently completed his Masters in Public Administration (MPA) at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in the USA, and is an Archbishop Tutu Leadership Fellow.
His moral compass is closely aligned to that of FCB and its clients, and his goal at FCB is to make a positive contribution to clients’ businesses while never losing sight of the challenges facing this country, and doing what we can do to make it a better place.

There are no personalised desks or workstations, supporting mobility and integration within the office space. Impromptu brainstorming sessions are also encouraged, with employees being able to write on most of the surfaces within the office.   Inspiration for the interior came from the building’s exterior facade and DHK kept all of the heritage building’s finishes and fittings. The site of the project “Mirror Houses” by Peter Pichler Architecture is located in the midst of apple orchards close to Bolzano, North Italy, and is surrounded by the spectacular mountains of the dolomites. The client, who lives in a farmhouse of the ’60s on the site, asked us to design a structure for renting out as a luxury holiday unit, so guests have their small autonomous apartment and can fully enjoy the experience to live in the middle of nature. A maximum degree of privacy for both the client and the residing guest should be taken into consideration. The new structure is oriented towards east with their private garden and an autonomous access and parking for their guests. Each unit contains a kitchen / living room as well as a bath- and bedroom with big openable skylights to allow natural light and ventilation. A small basement serves for temporary storage.
