Mulberry & Prince Kitchen and Bar is the latest eatery to open in Cape Town’s trendy CBD. Situated on Pepper Street in between Bree and Loop, this exciting new addition features (seriously) pretty interiors and American-style cuisine.
This kitchen and bar, which is named after two streets in New York City, is owned by Capetonian Cornel Mostert and New Yorker Cynthia Rivera, two chefs who met while they were studying at the Culinary Institute of America.
Atelier Interiors, who is behind the design of the space, opted for a dusty pink, grey and white palette. A combination of custom-made and mid-century modern inspired furniture can be seen throughout the restaurant, together with exposed brick walls and colourful stained glass. The space is beautifully finished with work by local artist Kurt Pio lining the walls.
Influenced by Cornel and Cynthia’s collective experiences, the menu features “New American” dishes like ricotta gnudi with parmesan broth and mushrooms, slow-cooked pork shoulder in brodo with burnt leeks and cucumbers and cod and butter beans in an ajo-blanco-inspired sauce.
“Everything from the food, to the decor and music that’s playing reflects both of our personalities, all coming together in an intriguing space,” says Cornel.
Mulberry & Prince is open from 5pm until late (the kitchen closes at 10pm) from Tuesday to Saturday. The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
