Article by  VISI Magazine  -  a proud partner of Inspire Expo 2016. WORDS  Lindi Brownell Meiring  PHOTOS  Micky Hoyle  _________________________________________________________________________________ Mulberry & Prince Kitchen and Bar is the latest eatery to open in Cape Town’s trendy CBD. Situated on Pepper Street in between Bree and Loop, this exciting new addition features (seriously) pretty interiors and American-style cuisine. This kitchen and bar, which is named after two streets in New York City, is owned by Capetonian Cornel Mostert and New Yorker Cynthia Rivera, two chefs who met while they were studying at the Culinary Institute of America. Atelier Interiors, who is behind the design of the space, opted for a dusty pink, grey and white palette. A combination of custom-made and mid-century modern inspired furniture can be seen throughout the restaurant, together with exposed brick walls and colourful stained glass. The space is beautifully finished with work by local arti

Linehouse shapes eyewear brand's store concept with optical motif

SHANGHAI – Amidst Shanghai's fast-paced frame of mind, Linehouse studio shapes the new retail concept for eyewear brand Coterie with an ethereal ambience. Within the Grand Gateway landmark area, N3ON's boutique concept pares the interior down to the basics of vision. The space is inspired by ocular perception – the sense of sight perceived by the eye – leaving visitors in question of the visual perspective of reality. The internal structure of the space expresses convex and concave notions of sight. Upon entering, neon pink-hued accents lined with fluorescent lights highlight the cashier’s desk as the focal element, standing in striking contrast to the encompassing white space. Through the middle of the room, a pair of perforated metal panels crisscross to create a visual illusion, playing with sight perspective and manipulating the appearance of the spatial boundary. Accentuating the effect, mirrors are set to enchant a reflection.  Eyewear is presented atop display fixtures t

Studio C102 gives 1Rebel gym a clubby air with industrial-style detailing

LONDON – ‘We’re ditching the tired model and building destinations, not just gyms.’ That’s part of an announcement on 1Rebel’s website. The nascent brand’s second branch is located in the recently redeveloped Broadgate Circle, one of London’s main business districts. Designed by up-and-coming practice Studio C102, the 800-sqm basement – formerly occupied by mechanical systems and storage – looks more like a club than a gym, thanks to poured-concrete flooring and industrial-style detailing. In the words of Studio C102 principal Kyriakos Katsaros: ‘The brief was to make each new 1Rebel gym as individualized as possible, while still keeping to the brand promise of every class feeling like a night out – an event in its own right rather than a means to an end.’ That explains why 1Rebel Broadgate is noticeably darker than its nearby predecessor at 63 St Mary Axe. ‘By responding imaginatively to differences in the sites,’ says Katsaros, ‘we created a distinct sense of place for each. Sophie Hicks sets Acne Studios' flagship identity in the concrete jungle

Image
NEW YORK – Sophie Hicks repours the concrete concept of Acne Studios' flagship within the depths of the concrete jungle. First generating waves in Seoul's wealthy district of Gangnam, the minimal material palette of the London-based architect's Korean flagship sinks into the West Village. Situated away from the city's established retail areas and amid the neighbourhood setting of Horatio Street, the clean-lined interior transcends its residential building casing, instead offering a stripped back and raw aesthetic worthy of a luxurious elevator.  A polished concrete floor is topped with partitions of brushed stainless steel and fittings illuminated by lights which filter through walls of frosted glass. A single rail runs around the store's perimeter, effectively limiting the number of garments to be displayed at one time, allowing each item to breathe and take centre stage.  Aside from statement pieces, the only alien elements touching down within the space are a ser

Dezignbiz is a series of informative and game changing talks which will be held on the 3rd of June and brought to you by the Inspire Trade Expo. It was conceptualised by Dave Nemeth a prominent trend forecaster and business consultant in conjunction with the Inspire Trade Expo team. Through much research we realised that we have a design centric consumer across all LSM’s yet very few companies are able to successfully communicate this to their target audiences. This so called “customer experience” is important throughout all aspects of a company, from business processes to the way the marketing is done and what their office environments look like. It is also important that the company culture is in line with what the company stands for, how are you adapting to this "new workforce". This series of talks also covers leading edge technology presentation and how this can assist in taking your busines
